Monster Hunter 4 Monster Preview: Demon Frog Tetsukabura [鬼蛙テツカブラ]

RIDDIP-RIDDIP: As someone with a history of designing all sorts of Keroro Gunsou (Sgt. Frog) livery in Forza Motorsport, I have a bit of a soft spot for frogs. Apparently, I’m not the only one. Keroro. Kerokerokeroppi. Kermit. Jabba the Hut. Frogs have clearly been a staple of human popular culture for quite some time. This brings us to our first Monster Hunter 4 monster preview feature. After being relegated to Gobul bait in Monster Hunter Tri, Portable 3, 3G and Ultimate, frogs now hop up several levels in the food chain with their own signature monster. Meet the “Demon Frog” Tetsukabura, an angry-looking monster that looks like the offspring of an ornery sabertooth and a bullfrog all hopped up on Red Bull.

Going for a froggy five-bagger

Described as an amphibious creature, the Tetsukabura’s main defining feature is a ginormous jaw that supports two equally humongous tusks. The Tetsukabura apparently uses these tusks like a shovel to pick up huge rocks, which it then carries around like a forklift before hurling it at hapless hunters. The monster can also chew up rocks and spit out their fragments, which it also can do in combination with a green, viscous fluid that it likes to spit around.

In addition to its powerful jaws, the Tetsukabura also has two powerful legs, which it can use to scale slopes of higher elevation. Its legs also allow it to close distances and change directions quickly, which sounds a bit like bad news for someone such as myself who usually uses bowguns.

Gluttony is one defining trait for the Tetsukabura and it will apparently eat anything and everything. Perhaps this means it’s more susceptible to drugged meat, which hunters may be able to use to their advantage. Unfortunately, it has a taste for hunters, too, see watch out for its big mouth lest it chews you up like gum.

Uh ... dude, can you please get off my head?
